Seeking the Lord, our God
How Do I Treat Others?

"Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God.  Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king."     - 1 Peter 2:16-17
As a people who are free, we must choose to obey our God as His slaves and thus submit to the authorities He has established.  We don’t always like to talk about the way we should behave toward those God placed in rightful authority over us. God has given us freedom, but we are not to use our freedom to bring about evil works – but good.  And we do good by submitting ourselves to authorities God has placed over us- in fact, this is one way we submit ourselves to God.  We do this as long as they do not instruct us to disobey God.
So what does this look like in real life?  As God’s children, our general attitude toward all men is one of honor and respect.  Toward the church, it is love.  Toward God, it is reverential fear.  Toward government leaders, it is honor due to their positions.
